Last Day Important Notes

It has been a whirlwind two weeks and we've finally reached the home stretch!  Only two more performances left to go.  We are so proud of all our talented actors--both casts did an incredible job today.  Our audiences LOVED the shows!

Call time tomorrow is 1:15 for Opening Cast and 4:15 for Closing Cast.  The matinee is completely SOLD OUT and there are less than 30 tickets remaining for the final performance at 5:15.  Wow!  We've had sold out or near sold out houses for all shows--so great for our performers!  If any opening night kids have not yet seen the closing cast perform, I highly encourage it.  I've loved seeing them all come to watch and support their fellow castmates!

Here are some final housekeeping things--

  • Applause Ads--If you had an applause ad in the playbill and have not already paid for it, please see me tomorrow.  I will be in the sound booth until the start of the final show.
  • Photo Wall--Please take home your child's pictures from the photo wall.  If you are not staying for the final performance, you may take your photo home before you leave after the matinee show.
  • Striking the Set--Sadly, we have to breakdown our beautiful book after the final performance.  We need parents willing to help us!  Bring a drill if you have one!
  • Clean-Up--Please have your actors help clean up when they are leaving Studio D.  It is currently a MESS.  We need everyone's help to leave that space better than we found it.
  • Photography--We had professional photography done during the show.  Thank you to Jesse Bueno (Gracie's Dad) for photographing both casts!  He will be setting up a website for us and will send out the link to see all the pictures of our kids.
THANK YOU!!!

Show Manager Notes--Opening Night

WOW!!  WE ARE SO PROUD OF OUR KIDS!!

Can you believe that less than two weeks ago they didn't even know a word?!?  This is truly my favorite part of a two week production--the realization of just how far these kids have come and how much it took to get there.  It was a terrific first night.  Please congratulate your opening night kids for a job well done.  Thank you so much for helping us get to this point.  This production has taken everyone's cooperation and participation.  Lindsey was right--we cannot do this without our parents, so thank you!!

We have five more shows to go!

Tonight's notes...

  • Closing Night Cast--Full tech rehearsal tomorrow.  They need to arrive IN costume, hair, etc ready to go.  If anyone can arrive between 12:30-12:45, we can begin the process of getting a mic on them.  We will run through the entire show one or two times.  Rehearsal will go until 4:30 for this group and we will release for dinner.  Call time is 5:45 for kids getting a mic and 6:15 for all others.
  •  Opening Night Cast--Miss Lindsey has notes from tonight's performance on things we can do to keep working.  As actors, she wants them to continue to strive for improvement.  Those kids will work on the show in the lobby or Studio A with our intern.  I can definitely use a parent or two willing to stay and assist with crowd control.  Rehearsal will end at 5pm for these kids.  NO COSTUMES required for them.
  • Volunteers--We are still in need of volunteers for various positions.  Please check the list and be sure you will meet your two volunteer positions requirement.  Reminder--If you have not completed a background check, you canNOT work backstage.  This is for the safety of our kids! http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c094ba8ad2ba20-performance
  • Concessions--Thank you to those parents who contributed to our concessions tonight.  We are in need of items for EVERY show.  Please consider donating baked goods, homemade or store bought, wine, or other snacks. Email hanilulu@gmail.com if you can contribute.
  • Arriving to Performances--While we have entered in through the mainstage of the theatre during rehearsal, we ask that you do NOT enter into the theatre mainstage with your actor when you arrive for any performance going forward.  They need to go to the dressing room through the hall way in the main lobby.  If you have not completed a background check, you cannot come backstage with your child or assist them in the dressing room.  We do have parents back there able to help them.
  • REST--Performance weekends are exhausting and so tough on their bodies.  Encourage your child to be getting extra rest.  Lots of rest, healthy food, and limited sugar will help fuel them through these long days.  Mindless TV time while lying down doesn't hurt--they need the mental break!  :)

Volunteers for the shows

Hello wonderful parent volunteers –

We all are excited that the show begins tonight!  Thank you all for signing up to volunteer and be part of the production.  We need everyone’s help to make the show a success --- and it is fun too!

There is still more help needed, please go to the SignupGenius site to sign up for open slots.  Please only sign up for backstage if you have completed the background check.

To view the sign up page, go to:
www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C094BA8AD2BA20-performance

Please be at PCT atleast an hour before the show for the volunteer positions (an hour and half before the show for the light/sound person to help with mics).    The coordinator for each area will be there or contact you before on what needs to happen in each position.

Thank you all again for your help.  This is going to be an amazing show!!

Marcia

From Miss Lindsey--Director Notes from Run Thru

General Notes
-Everyone is doing an amazing job. Please remember not to whisper lines to each other onstage. You will have mics on and anything you whisper, the audience will hear. If someone forgets a line, either someone else needs to say it, or you need to improv your way out of it.
-Cheat out! I don't want to see any booty cheeks, only beauty checks :)
-Go over music, lines, and choreo!
-These are notes for both casts combined, so everyone please go over these with your children.

Scene 1
-Everyone needs to review the choreo for Top Secret Personal Beeswax

Scene 2
-May was late to stage. If you miss your entrance, please don't come onstage after the fact.
-Lucielle- Make sure your scene with Junie happens on in front of the chairs, not behind
-Camielle, Chenielle - Make sure you both do big arms whenever you first come onstage
-Opening night Camielle, Chenielle, Lucille- Dance was a little sloppier than it has been. Please review. Also, work on the rhythms.
Closing Night Camielle, Chenielle, and Lucielle- So much improvement! Dance looks good so now don't forget to be sassy and have fun with it! More energy :)

Scene 3-
-When Junie and Grace and Junie and Herb are standing next to the bus, make sure that those lines of dialogue are said right next to the bus.
-Herb and Junie need to make eye contact and have more fun with the song. Play with it more!

Scene 4-
-Way to improv Claire! You were great at this today.
-Junie's- Introduce the people in class faster and students make faster entrances.
-Mr. Scary- Make sure that you are always standing in the light. Sometimes you went too far downstage so we couldn't see you.
-Claire- "Why isn't anyone complaining" Move slightly upstage, so that you will be in the light.
- Go over lyrics for time for drawing.
-papers should be torn out of the book already so at the end of the song, you take the ripped out page and pass it to you L.
-Scary- make sure that you look at the pictures before you comment on them.
-Scary- Your eyes in glasses were hilarious!! Favorite moment so far!
-Everyone- Make you need glasses spookier

Scene 5-
- feet forward Lennie
-Scary- stand in the light for Now I See

Scene 8-
-Sheldon-Make gross noise when you blow your nose
-Everyone make sure you are under the light when you are in  the lunch line
-Sway the tray R first
-Make sure that you know what side of the diagonal you are in during Gladys Gutzman.
-Sheldon stand in the light

Scene 10
-Everyone in kickball tournament needs to sing through the song a couple of times.
-Claire- Go over your notes for your one line in the Kickball song

Scene 12
-Mom, Dad, and Junie- There was awkward space where no one way doing anything. Fill this space in with hugs and improv.

Scene 13
-Junie- After you say "I still couldn't juggle," march off

Scene 14
-Kickball tournament- Make you this is CS!
-Scary- Blow whistle louder
-Lucielle- Don't forget your "Let's play Ball" line
-Life Gives You Lemons- Everyone should be in the same semi-circle as the beginning number. Not a straight line
-Go over all sections of "Life Gives you Lemons"

Ticket Sales- way to go!

The Thursday night show is officially sold out online!! We have a few tickets remaining, but we want to make sure it doesn't accidentally oversell. If you would like to purchase any additional tickets for Thursday evening, please plan on doing so with cash or a check made to PCT, first come first served. They will be $10 at the door.

Many of the other shows are getting close... our kids are going to have big audiences! Exciting!

You can pick those up from me, or leave them at Will Call to pick up right before the show.

We have comp ticket requests from the following families (by cast member's last name):

Dowen/Scott

From Concessions Coordinator

This is my family's first experience with a major production at Plano Children's Theater and we have been so impressed by the way everyone comes together to make the show a success. It has such a wonderful community spirit!

PCT provides packaged items for concessions, and parents are welcome to donate items for sale that match the theme of the show.I have been making sugar cookies to sell, and we will also have lemonade available.

We are requesting cupcakes which have been decorated to go along with the play. If you'd like to donate cupcakes with bright colored frosting, let me know which day you will be bringing them. They can be homemade or store bought. You can decorate them with pictures on toothpicks of Junie, her friends, her bow, etc., or I can have decorations available if I you just email me or text me.

Another item that is popular with the adults who attend the show is wine. It must be donated since the theater does not have a liquor license. With the wine, quantity is more important than quality in this situation! So if you'd like to donate a jug or two of wine, please either get it to me when we pick up our kids, or contact me to arrange another time. If you would like to donate wine and your last name begins with A-K please provide white wine; if your last name begins with L-Z please provide red.

If you have something else in mind you'd like to donate, just let me know.

I'm at pick up every afternoon. I'm short, with glasses, and dark reddish brown hair, and I have a 4-year-old little girl with me.

Thanks for helping out!

Show Manager Notes--Day 7

We open in TWO days!  Tomorrow is our big tech rehearsal.  Mics, lights, sound, costumes, oh my!  The kids need to be VERY focused for an excellent day of rehearsal.  Today, we almost got through the second half of the show with both casts.  We saw improvement in several songs, but kids still need lines or not knowing songs.  PLEASE have the kids continue to rehearse at home.  It makes a huge difference. We will begin with the final scene for both casts, and then we will begin running through the show start to finish for each group.

Here are the notes from me and Lindsey today--

  • No Electronics--Lindsey wants absolutely NO electronics brought for the remainder of the show, including during the show.  No iPads, Kindles, etc to distract the kids.  They need to be paying attention at all times.  We know this is extremely difficult to do at their age, but the technology makes it so much harder.
  • Costumes--Costumes looked GREAT today!  It's so fun to see them all in their costumes to really begin to see the show come alive.  All kids using a mic need to have underpinnings--a tank or cami underneath their clothes and shorts.  If wearing a dress or changing a costume, this is even more important.  Please have the kids wearing the underpinnings from here on out.
  • More Work--The Gladys Gutzman and Kickball Tournament songs are the two currently needing the most work from home.  We spent the majority of rehearsal just on these two songs for both casts.  All kids need to rehearse the final song "Story of My Life" with "Top Secret Personal Beeswax Reprise" for tomorrow.
  • Lines--No student is allowed to request their line tomorrow.  If they don't know it, they need to find a way to improv until they get to it.  If it is too bad, the child runs the risk of having their lines cut by Lindsey from the show entirely.  Several kids are still struggling to remember their lines.  Please run lines with your child for all scenes.  It is very helpful to read the lines before and after their part so that they know their cues.
  • Concessions--Be on the lookout for information from our Concessions Coordinator regarding needs.  We need baked goods (homemade or store bought) to sell before the show and during intermission.  Examples can be cupcakes with cute toothpicks that have Junie B Jones images, sugar cookies, chocolate covered pretzel "pencils,"  etc.  If you can provide something, please email hanilulu@gmail.com
  • Rehearsal Thursday and Friday--We will have a bit of a unique rehearsal on the final two days.  On Thursday, only the OPENING cast kids need to arrive in costume.  They will be on stage, and we will run through the show more than once with full tech, costume changes, lights, scene changes, etc.  The opening night cast will be released from rehearsal at 4:30 to get dinner.  Return time is 5:45 for those using a mic and 6:15 for all others.  Please arrive IN costume.  During Thursday rehearsal, the closing cast kids will be rehearse in Studio A with Miss Leora to clean up dances.  REQUEST--I need one to two parents willing to help in Studio A to help Leora keep the kids focused and listening!  I will have to be in the sound booth the entire time.  Closing cast will be released at normal time, 5pm, on Thursday night.  On Friday, we will do the exact opposite--Closing cast on the main stage and opening cast working through songs in Studio A.  I will also need one to two parent volunteers for Friday.
  • Cast Party--You should have received an Evite for the Cast Party at Spaghetti Warehouse at 4pm on Saturday.  RSVP as soon as possible on the Evite.  Tara Walsh, Kate's mom (Mr. Scary), will be at drop off and pick up collecting money for the party until Thursday.  If you cannot find her, you are welcome to pay me.  Parents and siblings welcome.  Thursday is a hard deadline as we need to provide Spaghetti Warehouse with a headcount.  $10 per person.
  • No gum--We have had several students every day showing up with gum.  We do NOT allow gum at any time.  Do not allow your child to arrive with gum!  This is not conducive to singing, dancing, and enunciating on stage.

Show Manager Notes--Day 6

Oh my goodness, we open in THREE DAYS!  How exciting!  We still have a LOT of work to do.  We were able to rehearse in the two separate casts today and made it through the beginning of Scene 8.  We will work on cleaning up everything tomorrow.

IMPORTANT--The kids do not all know their parts, especially the songs.  They are better at their lines, but miss words to the songs or when they sing as a whole group.  Some still miss cues on when to say their lines.  They need to review choreography.  Please make sure they rehearse before arriving at 1pm tomorrow.  Opening Cast kids seem to know their songs and choreography better than closing.  We need to have both casts really strong--closing cast kids need to step it up!  Closing night's best song was Now I See--way more energy than the other songs and she really wants to see that for all songs.  Opening night kids still need to keep working, but Miss Lindsey was more pleased with their progress.  We need to be able to run through the show in it's entirety for both casts on Wednesday and Thursday if at all possible.

Here are the rest of today's notes--

  • Costumes--Kids need to arrive in full costume starting tomorrow.  Be thinking about things such as how you will do their hair as well.  For the Lucille, Camille, Chenille girls sharing tennis shirts, I have those in Maggie's basket.  Don't forget underpinnings!  This is a cami and biker shorts or something similar.  We need them even if not having a costume change as we will pin the mics to them for those kids that applies to.  Make sure baskets are labeled.
  • Tickets--Check the ticket count below updated by Laura Spradley tonight.  If you have questions, you can email Laura at spradleysonline@gmail.com
  • Volunteers--Have you signed up for your two volunteer spots?  Click the link here  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c094ba8ad2ba20-performance.  We need two more backstage people for almost every performance.  This is crucial.  If you are working backstage, Chris Foree, our Backstage Coordinator, would like to meet with you at pickup on Wednesday.
  • Cast Party--Be on the lookout for an Evite coming for the Cast Party in between the two shows on Saturday at Spaghetti Warehouse.  The cost is $10 per person.  Parents aren't required but it's fun to attend if you can.
  • Stay Healthy--We know this is an extreme amount of work and this week is extra exhausting.  Encourage early bedtimes, extra vitamin C, drinking plenty of water, etc, to help the kids stay healthy.  We don't want anyone to get sick!
  • Parent Help This Week--If you are working backstage at any point this week or helping in the light/sound booth, I could use your help managing kids and keeping things flowing during rehearsal.  Thank you to Melanie Klint, our Prop Coordinator, for the extra help today!

Show Manager Notes--Set Build Day

THANK YOU to all parents who assisted with the set build today!  We had some super fast painters!  The set is coming along and Miss Lindsey was able to spend almost four hours rehearsing with the kids.  They went through the final two scenes with all choreography as well as went back to our first song.

Here are the notes from today.

  • NO SCRIPTS!!--Kids may NOT use their scripts on stage tomorrow at all.  They must have their lines, songs, choreography and blocking memorized.  We will begin cleaning up the songs and the scenes. Miss Lindsey recommends they bring their script to study in the audience if not on stage.  If they have any singing parts where they are the only one singing that portion, they need to know it and their cue of when to sing.  It is imperative that all kids are prepared tomorrow.
  • Tickets--Please see the post below from Laura Spradley, our Ticket Coordinator.  Tickets are required to be sold by tomorrow for the minimum of 15 sold per family.
  • Volunteers--Marcia Schiff posted a link to the sign-up genius below for all volunteer positions during the production.  Remember, each family is required to fill two positions during performances.  There are several shows we do not have anyone for positions such as concessions.  If you are working backstage or in the dressing room, you are required to complete a Background Check through the PCT website.  This is incredibly important.
  • Baskets--If you have your child's basket, please go ahead and start bringing it no later than Tuesday.  They can bring tomorrow.  Be sure all clothes are labeled as well as the basket.  They should begin bringing their Show and Tell item everyday to practice dancing with it (for those kids in the classroom scene).
  • Cast Party--Tara Walsh will be contacting you regarding the Cast Party in between the two Saturday shows.  We will meet at Spaghetti Warehouse at 15th and 75 for a party.  The cost should be $10 per person.  Parents are welcome to attend but will need to pay for their portion as well.  This is a lot of fun for the kids!
  • Photo--If you have your framed 8x10 picture of your child ready, you may place it on the photo wall in the lobby anytime between now and opening night.  Just to clarify--black frame but color photo with the child's first and last name labeled for the audience to read.
  • Mics--The following children will be using mics for the show--Junie B, Daddy/Mrs Gutzman, Herb, Lucille, Mother, Mr. Scary, May, Sheldon, Chenille, and Camille.  Children using a mic will need to arrive an hour and a half before showtime.  The others need to arrive one hour prior.

Ticket Information

A few things about tickets:

1) If your child's name is misspelled on the ticket charts below, please let me know.

2) Please review the chart and make sure it looks correct. Verify with friends and family that they received a confirmation e-mail. If they didn't, it means their order didn't go through.

3) Once your child has at least 15 in the "totals" section on the chart AND you've signed up for 2 volunteer spots on the signup genius, please e-mail me your request for up to 6 comp tickets. My e-mail is spradleysonline@gmail.com.

Thanks,

Laura

Show Manager Notes--Day 5

Wow!  We've made it through the first week!  The kids worked so hard this week and we are very proud of them.  We've made it all the way to Scene 13 of 15 total scenes.  We will be in a good position on Monday after rehearsing on Sunday and finishing all blocking.

Here are today's notes--

  • Photo Wall--Framed 8x10 pictures (plain black frame) of your child with their name are needed for the photo wall in the lobby.  We need your photo on the wall by opening night next Thursday.  If you have yours ready, you may place on the photo wall starting on Tuesday.
  • Off Book!  ALL lines need to be memorized by Monday for ALL actors.  This is vital so that we can spend the next few days running the show in it's entirety and cleaning up scenes.  The kids must know their parts.
  • Costumes--If you have any questions regarding costumes, please reach out to Amanda Zinsmeyer.  Please see her post below for specifics for your child.  Please have your child begin bringing their basket on Tuesday with everything they need.
  • Set Build--HUGE thank you to Eric Velasquez, Elena and Evan's dad, for spending the past three days at the theatre and building us the notebook!  It's 16 ft wide and 8 ft tall, so most definitely not small.  We are so thankful for you, Eric!  On Sunday, parents will assist Eric in building the braces to the back and assembling the book on stage before our artist can begin drawing out the design of the giant notebook.  We will need parents to help paint the walls and floors.   Some parents will help Michaela, our artist for the book (my oldest), paint in her drawings on the notebook.  Your participation is vital!  Don't forget, we will also have a rehearsal for the kids with Miss Lindsey while the parents are working.
  • Tech Week--I apologize for the confusion, but the handout regarding tech week is WRONG.  We do NOT have any evening rehearsals!  That is for the longer productions that only rehearse once a week.  For a two week, we will have just our regular 1-5 rehearsal Monday--Wednesday.  On Thursday and Friday, we still have rehearsal even though there will be shows those nights.  Most likely, we will release a little earlier to allow time for kids to get a meal.
  • Music--We need all music completely memorized by Monday.  It is very hard to work on cleaning up the scenes and fine tuning if the kids do not know the music.  I'm adding three new videos on the blog to help them practice--Kickball Tournament, Sheldon Potts, and Make Lemonade.  We will be blocking and singing scenes 14 & 15 on Sunday.  Please make sure the children know those songs before coming.
  • Mics--The following characters will be using a mic during the show--Junie B, Herb, Daddy/Mrs. Gutzman, Lucille, May, Sheldon, Mother & Mr. Scary (these two will share and have to swap backstage).  I will be providing you with a mic agreement to sign next week.  All actors using a mic will have to arrive to the sound booth an additional 30 minutes earlier for call times.  So, 5:45 for evening performances (6:15 call time for other actors) and 12:45 for daytime performances (1:15 call time for others).
THANK YOU all so much for your effort in this production!  This is not simply a two week camp--this is a major production that requires everyone's cooperation.  I'm so thankful for everyone's participation and support of the kids.  They have been so great to work with this week!  I hope they are enjoying it as much as my kids are. Granted, my Junie B looks like she is about to fall over, but she's loving every minute! :)

SignUpGenius is Posted -- Volunteer slots

The SignUpGenius is up for selecting volunteer slots.

To view the sign up page, go to:
www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C094BA8AD2BA20-performance

We need volunteers to help everything run smoothly during each production.  Each family is asked to complete 2 volunteer positions.  Once you have signed up for 2 slots (and you have met your original 15 ticket sales requirement) you will be eligible for 6 comp tickets.  Your support is vital to the succes of the show! Consider signing up for performances your child is "off".

There will be training for the positions by the coordinators.  If you will working backstage or on lights/sound, please try to attend a tech rehearsal on Wednesday or Thursday.

Remember there is a new backstage access pass requirement – if you have not done so already, please complete the application (see my previous post).  If you have submitted the application you may sign up for the backstage slots – just let me know so I can try to push the application through the process.

If you have any questions, please email me at marciask2@gmail.com or call/text 972-639-7939.

Thank you again for your support of the show!
Marcia (Rayna’s mom)

Show Manager Notes--Day 4

We made some great progress today in our classroom scenes!  We are on track, especially with our rehearsal on Sunday.  I know it's a lot on the kids, but they are holding in and working hard.  It was evident that more of them rehearsed yesterday and today.  Thank you!!  Remember, the first half of the show is supposed to be memorized by TOMORROW!

Here are today's notes from Lindsey--

  • Videos--Two new videos are posted--an updated version of Top Personal Beeswax (Watch Renae in the red and white striped tank top in front) as well as Gladys Gutzman.  We also reviewed Show and Tell, Now I See, and You Need Glasses.  The kids need all the lyrics to these songs.  We will begin working on Beeswax Cookie Reprise,  Kickball Tournament, Making Lemonade, and potentially Sheldon Potts' song as well tomorrow.  All songs up to that point, the kids should be familiar with and continuing to practice.  We know it's a lot, but they can do it!
  • The Hardest Part of Acting--Miss Lindsey talked to the kids today about what she describes as the hardest part of acting--staying in character on the stage even when you don't have lines.  During the classroom scenes, we have 11 "students" on stage plus Mr. Scary.  If they are sitting and do not have dialogue, they need to be paying attention, listening to Junie's conversation and reacting in a way appropriate for their character.  For example, May might make more faces or laugh at Junie B, while Lucille might be twirling her hair or turning to chitchat with Chenille and Camille.  It would be very helpful for you to talk to your child about what they are doing on stage during their scenes.  Discuss their character--what might they think about Junie B Jones getting glasses, or talking about Mrs. Gutzman, for example.
  • Show and Tell--Each actor in the Show and Tell scene needs a prop to sing with for show and tell.  Junie B Jones will use her journal and have her purple glasses with her.  The others could have a stuffed animal, a car, a doll, etc.  Big enough to be recognizable, but not to big to distract from the dancing.
  • Talking--Both Miss Lindsey and Mr. Marcus (who was helping us today) reminded the kids that they are to be quiet when waiting for their turn on stage in the audience.  We don't mind the iPads and such, but when the kids are all sitting around talking about the game they are playing, it is very distracting to the actors and director.  If Miss Lindsey is talking, everyone should be quiet!  We appreciate you having this conversation with your child.
  • Background Checks--Please see the very important post below from Marcia regarding Background Checks and Backstage Passes.  This is very new at PCT but a security measure that gives me more peace of mind as a parent for the safety of my children.  If you plan to work backstage at all during that time, you MUST have a backstage pass.

From the Volunteer Coordinator

This production needs you!  We need family volunteers to help everything run smoothly during each production and it is fun.  Each family is asked to complete 2 volunteer positions.  Once you have signed up for 2 slots (and you have met your original 15 ticket sales requirement) you will be eligible for 6 comp tickets.  A SignUpGenius is being setup for signing up for volunteer slots.  We are finalizing the needs and expect to have the link out to you tonight.  In the meantime, start thinking about how you would like to help.  Also note there is a new backstage access pass requirement -- see the note below from NTPA and submit the application.

Here is a short summary of the basic roles needed:

Backstage/Dressing Rooms:
Assist actors with props and moving sets. Keep kids quiet.  Help with costume changes, hair, etc.   These volunteer position will require a NTPA Backstage Access Pass.

Tickets:
Mark tickets as used.  Pass out playbills.  Seating assistance.  Cleanup Theater and lobby after show.

Concession:
Set up and sell concessions.

If you have any questions, please email me at marciask2@gmail.com or call/text 972-639-7939.

Thank you for your support of the show!
Marcia (Rayna’s mom)

Message from the North Texas Performing Arts governing board. You will not be allowed backstage unless this is competed.
Thank you!

Dear Families:

We always strive to provide a fun, safe environment where your children can feel at home.  We want you to feel secure leaving your children in our care. We believe our staff, volunteers, families and patrons are the best in the community who fully support the general welfare and best interests of your children, our staff and family of theaters.
However, as we grow, we would like to provide additional security and peace of mind to the children, staff and volunteers who mean so much to the continued success of our family of theaters.  In the tradition of other performing arts companies, we are excited to introduce, the Backstage Access Pass.  It will be a new measure of security that we believe will further enhance the safety of our families.

Starting May 2015, anyone sixteen or over who is not a cast member of the current show will be required to have a Backstage Access Pass in order to gain access to restricted backstage areas during shows or other times designated by PCT/PYT/MYT/FYT. If you ever volunteer backstage or frequent the backstage areas to assist with hair, costumes, make-up or simply bringing your child lunch or a change of clothes, you will need a Backstage Access Pass.

Applying is easy!  All you need to do is click on the link below for a CONFIDENTIAL background check.  The results, your information, or even whether or not you applied, will not be shared with the show Directors, Patrons, Volunteers or General Staff of PCT/PYT/MYT/FYT.

Once you are approved, your name will be added to the list of those approved for backstage access and you will be provided with a personalized card which will provide you backstage access for 2 years. The list is updated once a week and passes are mailed about 2 weeks after you apply.

Applying for a Backstage Access Pass is completely voluntary. Don’t worry, you do not need a Backstage Access Pass to volunteer!  It’s only required to go backstage!  Concessions, tickets, door monitor, etc. do not need a Backstage Access Pass.

If you have questions or concerns, feel free to contact backgroundchecks@planochildrenstheatre.org.

Show Manager Notes--Day 3

Hi Everyone,

So much is happening!  We blocked up to Scene 5 today.  The big issue we have right now is the kids not knowing the music.  We need them practicing their songs at home so that they can come in to rehearsal ready to sing and block the choreography.

  • Videos--New videos were posted tonight--"You Can Be My Friend" with Herb and Junie B as well as "Lucille, Camille, Chenille." The girls really need to practice this day and have the song completely memorized.
  • Posts--Please see the posts below our amazing Ticket Coordinator and Costume Coordinator.  They are willing to answer any specific questions you have regarding their topic.
  • Final Deadline for T-shirts!!  T-shirt money is due NO LATER than at drop off Thursday.  Please make your check out to Tonia Velasquez.
  • Set Build & Rehearsal--We will have our set build and rehearsal from 1-6 on Sunday.  If you are unable to attend, please let me know.  Parents will help work on the set while Lindsey rehearses with the kids.  We most definitely need this extra rehearsal time to clean up the songs and dance numbers.
  • Volunteer--Be on the lookout for the volunteer opportunities for the shows.  This production is only made possible with the help of all volunteers.  Each family is asked to complete 2 volunteer positions.  Marcia, our Volunteer Coordinator, will be sending out the volunteer list.
Thank you so much for all your help and support on the show!  E-mail me at any time with questions you will have.  I am always at the theatre after 5pm each day, so you are welcome to catch me there as well.

From the Ticket Coordinator

Ticket purchases for Junie B Jones are continuing to roll in! On Sunday, if you haven't met your ticket requirement, I will send you an e-mail letting you know how many additional tickets you need to purchase by Monday, July 20th. That is the deadline for meeting the 15-ticket requirement per family. Earlier than Monday is appreciated!

Once you have met your 15-ticket requirement AND signed up for two volunteer spots (sign up genius to come from our volunteer coordinator), you can request your 6 comp tickets. You will need to send me an e-mail and specify which shows you would like for your comp tickets.

Before and after rehearsal on Tuesday, I will have the tickets available for pickup.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me at spradleysonline@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Laura (Claire's mom)

From the Costume Coordinator

Hi, my name is Amanda Zinsmeyer and I’m the costume mom for Junie B. Jones.  First off, I would like to apologize for the delay in getting this over to you.  For those of you whose children will be playing multiple parts or who will need a costume change, you will need to underpin.  Underpinning is ensuring that your child has clothing on underneath so they can change into their other costume quickly, and in front of the other actors behind the stage.  An example of underpinning would be a white t-shirt for boys / white cami for girls, and spandex shorts.

I will be at PCT on Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 pm AND 4:15 to 5:15 pm to approve costumes.  If you do not have your costume yet, no worries!  We can talk through it on Friday.  Also, the kids will need to show up at PCT on Tuesday, July 21st with their costumes in a laundry basket labeled with their name.  They will keep all of their belongings in the basket for the remainder of the production.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at amanda.zinsmeyer@gmail.com.

Ideas for costumes:  (for this production, we need lots of color and solid tops preferred)

Junie B. Jones:  Cartoon like, exaggerated, mismatched, bright colors.  Overalls – half rolled up, knee high socks, purple glasses, big bow in her hair. Bright colored (cheap) spiral notebook for the classroom scene.

Lucille:  Very put together, big bow in her hair, poufy skirt, dressy shoes.  Costume #2 – Cheerleader – I would suggest a white knit tennis skirt and bright pink t-shirt.  The tennis skirt can be found at Academy at a reasonable price.   Bright colored (cheap) spiral notebook for the classroom scene.

Herb, Jose and Lennie:  Solid - bright colored t-shirt, colored shorts (athletic shorts are okay), sneakers.  Bright colored (cheap) spiral notebook for the classroom scene.

Sheldon:  This character is nerdy, allergic to everything.  Big glasses with the bridge wrapped in white tape, bright colored shirt, khaki or navy shorts.   Bright colored (cheap) spiral notebook for the classroom scene.

May:  This character is a bossy pants – Not a cheerleader, but a crowd controller and tattletale.  Hair in a bow, just not a big bow.  Shorts, bright colors or a dress would be fine.  Bright colored (cheap) spiral notebook for the classroom scene.

Camille and Chenille:  These two are twins – Matching outfits.  Costume #1:  Khaki or denim shorts and a bright colored top, big bow.  Costume #2:  Cheerleader –I would suggest a white knit tennis skirt and bright pink t-shirt.  The tennis skirt can be found at Academy at a reasonable price.  Bright colored (cheap) spiral notebook for the classroom scene.

Grace:  Not disheveled.  Short and top – bright colors.  Not a lot of pattern.

Bobbie Jean Piper:  Not disheveled.  Short and top – bright colors.  Not a lot of pattern.

Mr. Scary:  This is a nerdy adult character.  Sports coat, with a bow tie.  (Hair will need to be pulled back and placed in a bun.)

Mother:  Not childlike.  Basic dress.

Daddy:  Casual, works from home, not as formal.  Polo shirt in a bright color.  Khaki pants.  (Will need underpinning)

Mrs. Gutzman:  Traditional dress with an Apron.  Needs to have a handkerchief and hair up in a hairnet. (Will need underpinning)

Show Manager Notes--Day 2

Today was our first full day of rehearsing!  A lot of time was spent working on the first song as well as scenes 3 & 4.   Here are today's important announcements--

  • Bios are DUE--Your child's bio and headshot are due TOMORROW at the latest to Kimberly Pitluk at kpitluk@gmail.com.  Please be sure you take care of this important responsibility.  If you would like to have an applause ad for $10 (words only) or $25 (with a picture as well), you will send this to Kimberly as well.  Applause ads are a great way to support the kids! As of now, Kimberly only has about 25% of the cast with bios and pictures.
  • Cast List Updated--The cast list has been updated to include performance dates.  Please check the tab to the right.  I tried my VERY best to accommodate specific requests.  If anyone has a major issue with the performance dates, please let me know.  If not, I recommend speaking to your double for the character if you need any switching.
  • Ticket Sales--Now that we have our performance dates, its time to sell our tickets! Remember that each family is required to sell 15.  Direct them to the website.  IMPORTANT--there is also an adult production of Junie B Jones during the day hosted by PCT.  Please be sure your tickets are for the $8 show!
  • T-Shirts--Thank you to those who have already turned in their $15 for t-shirts.  These are going to be super cute!  T-shirt money is due TOMORROW.  PCT does not want to collect the money, so our checks will actually be made out to Tonia Velasquez.  She needs to place the order right away, so do not forget to get this done!
  • Homework--The kids have homework this evening! See the video tab on the right side panel of the blog to view and practice the current songs.  ALL actors need to practice and memorize "Top Secret Personal Beeswax."  Herb and Junie B need to rehearse and memorize "You Can Be My Friend."  All actors need to be working on memorizing their lines!
  • Set Build--We will be having a set build and rehearsal (for specific actors requested by Miss Lindsey) this SUNDAY, July 19th from 1-6pm at PCT.  We need lots of help painting the floor and walls.  Any parent who participates in the set build day will receive a small credit to their child's account at PCT.  Please join us!
  • Blog Updates--I am not sure why, but the emails of updates are not coming in until 24 hours after they are posted.  I cannot figure out this problem!  So, please be sure you check the blog EVERY DAY.  I recommend at least each morning to see what has been posted the night prior.  I will be posting every day.

Stage Manager Notes--Day 1

What a great first day!  We spent time getting to know each other through various activities, rehearsed the first song, as well as read through the entire script while listening to all songs.  I bet your children are exhausted as mine!  I really enjoyed getting to know your children a little and look forward to further excellent rehearsals.

While we rehearsed on the main stage, Miss Lindsey conducted auditions.  We should have a cast list sent out tonight so be on the lookout.  I will also be sending out the music via DropBox.  Please have your child rehearse "Top Secret Personal Beeswax Journal"before they arrive for 1pm rehearsal tomorrow.

A few important things--

  • Forms--Please be sure I have your signed forms and your schedule conflict forms.  I would like these tomorrow if possible.
  • Bios--Bios of your actors are due to Kimberly Pitluk by Wednesday.  I provided you a copy of a sample bio and listed an example here on the blog.  Email the bio and a headshot photo to Kimberly at kpitluk@gmail.com
  • Tickets--Once you know your child's part and performance dates, please begin actively selling tickets.  You can send ticket purchaser's directly to the PCT site for ticket sales.  Remind them to mark your child's name.  Laura Spradley, our Ticket Coordinator, will notify you how many of the 15 you have remaining to purchase.  Any balance of the 15 remaining by Monday next week will be required to purchase.  Top seller earns a $50 scholarship towards a future show!
  • Volunteers--Thank you to all parents who have stepped up for volunteer positions!  It was a little chaotic afterwards.  If you accepted a position this afternoon, can you please email me at jenny.dowen1@gmail.com with the position you are doing? This is a huge help! All parents will be asked to serve in two volunteer positions during the performances.  We will need people working at concessions, keeping kids quiet backstage, helping in the dressing rooms, etc.  Be on the lookout for information from our Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Conflicts & Requests--A few of you turned in schedule conflicts and gave me special requests for students performing together in the same cast.  I need this information immediately.  I cannot guaranteed that your child and his/her friend will be in the same cast, but we will do our best.  We certainly try with siblings to make it easier for audience members to come and support them both at the same time.
  • Questions?  Do not hesitate to email me at jenny.dowen1@gmail.com.  I am checking all the time and devoting the next two weeks to all things Junie B Jones!

Actor Bios Needed

We want to show off your child's adorable face and feature their talent in the playbill. By Wednesday this week, please submit a recent picture (just of their shoulders up is best) and a brief bio regarding the child's acting experience, hobbies, age, school. Maybe include their favorite former character. Send the bio and picture to Kimberly Pitluk at kpitluk@gmail.com. I ask you to PLEASE adhere to this deadline as Kimberly will need time to complete everything and submit to PCT for printing.

Furthermore, if you would like to include an Applause Ad for your child, you will email that to Kimberly as well. An Applause as is well wishes from the family to the actor. It is $10 for an ad of words only or $25 to include a photo of your child. They love having this momento in the playbill!

First time at PCT and unsure what to submit? Here is a sample bio

Katie is 10yrs old and entering 5th grade at Sample Elementary School. She loves reading, dancing and singing. This is her first major production with PCT but she has been in two musicals at her church. When Katie isn't on stage, she loves spending time with her family and practicing karate.  She thanks Miss Lindsey for this great experience!

Welcome Parents!

Hi, everyone!

We are excited to work with your children on the two week major production of Junie B Jones the Musical.  Please subscribe to the blog for all updates and important information.

Junie B Jones is quickly approaching.  My name is Jenny Dowen and I am the show mom for this two week major production.  It's my job to keep everything moving forward so that our director Miss Lindsey can focus on directing the kids.  Please email me if you have any questions.  I will be at the theatre every day during rehearsals.  I can't wait to get to know your kids and see this show come together!

This is a quick two week production with lots happening and many deadlines. I'm here to help you in any way for the show to be a HUGE SUCCESS!

Auditions
Auditions and call backs will all happen on Monday!  Lindsey encourages the children to have a 1 minute monologue as well as a song prepared.  They can have the lyrics in hand if needed, but memorizing the song is encouraged.  She is looking for their ability to be in character during the song not just standing and singing.  They can use a CD or a song on their phone for the music.
Once she has seen all the kids, Lindsey will have an idea of kids to sing or read for certain parts in Junie B Jones.  The cast will be finalized by Monday night so that you will be able to begin looking at lines with your child right away.

Parent Meeting
We will have a parent meeting with Miss Lindsey promptly at 1pm on Monday.  Please plan to attend for all information and to complete necessary forms.

Volunteer PositionsPlano Children's Theatre is successful with parent volunteers.  We are still needing the following main volunteer positions:
--Volunteer Coordinator
--Ticket Coordinator
--Prop Parent
--T-Shirt Coordinator
--Cast Party Parent
--Concessions Coordinator
If you are interested in serving in any of these positions, please let me know!  We definitely need your help!

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions
Thanks,
Jenny
